Tailings Dewatering by Pressure Filtration Short Course

30 April 2023 | Alberta, Canada

Course overview, objective and themes

This workshop will be focused on the use of the filterpress for mine tailings dewatering. Filtered tailings dry stacking is nowadays a well-established technique for the mine waste management and filterpresses are one of the most popular technologies in this field.

Main objectives are:

  • give a general understanding of the filter press technology: how does it works, main features, fields of applications;
  • describe the impact of treated material characteristics on the filtration process;
  • give an overview of the equipment size and design criteria;
  • cover some aspects about process control and tuning;
  • describe the characteristics of the filtered tailings produced, including geotechnical and mechanical properties
